Who We Are
ART is committed to providing accessible transportation for Arlington residents and visitors, including discounted fare to individuals with a disability and senior citizens. Visit How To Ride Art for Persons with Disabilities.
ART stops are clearly marked through signs on a pole. ART buses announce their route and destination over an external speaker system. ART buses are fully accessible with the ability to lower or kneel to the curb and deploy ramps to provide access for riders using wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Bus operators will assist riders in wheelchairs.
The Washington, DC area supports a wealth of transportation options. Transportation options include the Metro system, local bus system, commuter buses, commuter rail, carpooling, paratransit & accessible transit, and more.
Many people with disabilities can ride fixed-route bus and rail public transportation services for some or all trips. In addition to paratransit services, area transportation systems also make their fixed-route services as accessible as possible and offer discounted fares to people with disabilities. Individuals certified for MetroAccess and displaying a MetroAccess ID can ride most of the area’s public transit services without charge.
