Mount Vernon At Home is a nonprofit membership organization that offers peace of mind and practical solutions to its members, who reside in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County.
Benefits for members:
Transportation: Rides by volunteers to doctors and medical appointments or rides to shop and assistance with groceries; carpool to exercise classes at the Senior Center and for similar activities:
Educational/Cultural Activities: Group visits to museums, art galleries, theater and music performances; discussion groups; lectures on subjects of interest to seniors.
Social Activities: Restaurant outings and pot luck dinners; day trips to historic sites; support groups such as walking and dieting; special interest groups.
Home Services: simple repairs, organizing closets; temporary care of pets; help with filing, bill payments, computers and cell phones; errands for the housebound to the library, post office; referral to specialized contracts to install safety features; and more.
Health Services: volunteer monitoring of homebound members; assistance with medical records and insurance claims; help with medical visits or hospital stays from volunteers trained as advocates; plus referrals to carefully vetted preferred professional providers for companion care, home maintenance and repair services, among other essential services.
