Who We Are
Canine Companions for Independence trains and places assistance dogs for those who have physical or developmental disabilities. All Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) dogs are specially bred Labrador and Golden Retrievers. CCI hearing dogs and follow up services are free of charge.
To receive a hearing dog, you must be at least 18 years of age and deaf or hard of hearing, complete an application, find a friend or family member to be a training assistant, if accepted, attend a two-week Team Training class and you have follow-up support services at a regional center.
Virginia is served by the Northeast Regional Chapter. The Northeast Regional Center of Canine Companions for Independence is located in Medford, New York.
