Who We Are

The Salvation Army provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for men, as well as emergency shelter for women and children at area hotels.  Staff assists individuals with day services such as clothing vouchers, laundry services, telephone services and more. 

Emergency Men’s Shelter is located at 203 West 19th Street in Norfolk and provides food, shelter, resources and prayer for hundreds of struggling men in the Hampton Roads area. The men’s shelter is open 365 nights a year and offers 12 weekly soup kitchens in addition to breakfast and dinner that is served to shelter residents.  The Salvation Army provides a temporary shelter for 30-50 men as well as day services for transient homeless men. Also provides transitional living space for men in local recovery programs.



Day services including phone and voicemail access along with professional clothing, laundry services, computer access, substance abuse counseling, career counseling and regular encouragement and guidance assist in helping men find jobs, overcome obstacles, reconnect with families and find housing.

Male; Individuals in need of services, either shelter or day services, must have a photo ID. Additionally, potential clients must be sober and drug-free. Day services clients must declare homelessness in order to receive services.
