Who We Are

The READ Center (Reading and Education for Adult Development) is a not-for-profit volunteer adult literacy program for adults 18 and older, serving the greater Richmond area, including Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, and Richmond City. Trained volunteer tutors work with adult learners to meet their individual literacy goals.  



The Center provides tutor training workshops, one-to-one tutoring, and continuing educational activities for tutors and students.  Students can learn

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Everyday Math
  • Digital Skills

Classes and tutoring are FREE for adults 18 and over.
