Who We Are

The Low Vision Center (LVC) provides funding for 50% of the cost of adaptive devices and software for eligible applicants. Eligible applicants income should be less than $50,000, be legally blind, US residents and cash assets of less then $20,000. LVC offer information and resources about aids, assistive technology and strategies to people with low vision. The LVC is a nonprofit organization offering its resources services for free. It is located in Bethesda, MD.



At LVC, a home-like demonstration area is available offering a full variety of low vision aids and ideas. You can visit the demonstration area, by appointment, to examine the low vision aids, including magnifiers, CCTV's, Zoom Text, and non-optical adaptive aids (such as talking clocks and writing guides). A select group of low vision aids and Bausch & Lomb, Coil, Eschenbach, and Schweitzer magnifiers may also be purchased at competitive prices. Appointments are usually scheduled after 10:30 a.m., Monday through Wednesday.



Low Vision Center also offers information services which may be found on their website or by calling. These services include links to other web sites to find other resources for people with low vision, quick tips for making daily activities easier, a list of places, within the Washington, DC Area, that offer books on tape and materials with large print, a list of practitioners in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, Suburban Maryland and other locations in the area, Low Vision Support Groups in the DC Metro Area, and find out how to become exempt from Directory Assistance Charges.
