Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The Pulmonary Program at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richmond has been providing a comprehensive rehabilitation program for patients who have lung disease. Patients actively pursue and achieve goals, such as an enhanced ability to carry out activities of daily living, a reduction in shortness of breath, less anxiety and depression, improved self esteem, increased exercise ability, and a reduction in the number of days spent in the hospital.



Through our intensive education program, patients will learn about lung disease, medications used to manage the disease, how to breathe properly and how to conserve energy. The program run through the entire continuum of care from inpatient to day program to outpatient culminating in an independent exercise program, Breathing Well Club. Supplemental oxygen needs and vital signs are closely monitored while the patient is exercising.
