Who We Are
Frederick County Parks and Recreation operates five community centers and utilizes other sites for various programs for leisure and recreational activities for residents of all ages. Since its inception in 1971, the Frederick County Parks and Recreation Department has continued to expand its programming opportunities, the parks grounds, and physical structures. The department now maintains two major district parks, 5 neighborhood parks, two outdoor pools, a bike path, a community center, and a full gymnasium. The department offers a full slate of educational, social and recreational activities for all ages and has been recognized on an international level for its programming efforts.
For those 55 and older, the Parks and Recreation Department provides year-round activities. Senior Clubs are active throughout the county and members take regular trips, enjoy varied courses and lectures, and participate in specially designed fitness classes. FCPRD offers homebound transportation to those who would otherwise be unable to participate. FCPRD is proud of the opportunities it's Senior Adult programs offer, from learning about healthy lifestyles, to computer classes, educational trips, and fellowship.
The department offers a wide range of Special Events throughout the year which are organized to be appropriate for all ages and other programs encourage interaction between adults and children.
Strong relationships with organizations such as the ARC of the Northern Shenandoah Valley and Very Special Arts of Virginia enhance the efforts of department staff to provide opportunities for those members of the community with special needs.
Frederick County Parks and Recreation strives to keep all program fees as low as possible. One way that department meets this goal is through sponsorships or public/private partnerships. Call for information about fitness, facilities, summer camps, sports and athletics and aquatics.
