Who We Are
Rappahannock United Way (RUW) mobilizes and partners with local nonprofits, schools, businesses, and government, working to help individuals emerge from poverty and achieve greater financial stability, which helps to ensure the success of our community. Rappahannock United Way does this by focusing on Education, Healthy Living, and Financial Stability.
Rappahannock United Way focuses on ALICE households. ALICE® is an acronym, which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed. These are families, neighbors, and colleagues (men and women) who work hard and earn above the federal poverty level, but not enough to afford a basic household budget. ALICE households are not typically eligible for financial assistance and other community resources. Some households become ALICE due to an unforeseen life event; a life-altering health diagnosis, a job loss, a substantial loss of income due to a government shutdown, or family crises such as divorce or death.
Rappahannock United Way offers free financial stability programs through Prosper: A Bright Financial Future. These programs include tax preparation, financial coaching, one-time emergency financial assistance, community financial literacy workshops, and more. These free programs are open to anyone regardless of income. Find out more information, on their website www.rappahannockunitedway.org.
All donations made to Rappahannock United Way stay in the Greater Fredericksburg region, which includes the City of Fredericksburg and counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.
