Multi-disciplinary physical rehabilitation specialties such as physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapy are important for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients at all stages of the disease to maximize function and independence. Participating in physical rehabilitation with therapists who specialize in managing symptoms of MS is important as heat sensitivity and fatigue greatly impact exercise and activity tolerance.
The emotional and cognitive consequences of MS can be addressed by the medical psychology team at Sheltering Arms Institute. They provide a variety of behavioral, motivational, and other psychotherapeutic treatments as well as neuropsychological testing to help guide patients through the emotional effects of MS.
