Hospice and Palliative Care

Amedisys Hospice Care, formerly Compassionate Care Hospice provides services in various settings: homes, nursing homes, assisted living, and hospitals. Holistic therapies are available, including massage and music therapy.  The patient and the family are involved in making decisions. Care is provided for the patient and family 24/7.  Palliative care is also provided.

Anyone can refer a resident to hospice!  Family members, physicians, friends, nursing facility staff—even members of the patient’s clergy—make referrals. Once a referral is received, the Hospice Admissions Staff will contact the patient’s primary physician to ascertain if the patient is appropriate for hospice care.  The goal is to admit patients to hospice care within 24 hours of a completed referral.

The team approach treats not only the patient but recognizes the entire family is affected by a terminal illness. After a patient has died, the team will keep in contact with the family on a regular basis for at least one year after the death of the loved one.
