Who We Are
Jewish Family Services (JFS) provides telephone reassurance and Friendly VIsitors through its Senior Engagement program for socially isolated adults of all faiths, in the greater Richmond area.
The Telephone Reassurance program offers volunteers who call every weekday morning to check in, chat and ensure that everything is okay with an older adult or an adult with disabilities.
Individuals may be homebound or live alone and enjoy outside contact. The volunteer and client may chat about how the client is feeling, medication and food reminders, grandkids, beloved pets, the weather, and more. Calls usually last about two minutes. The calls are made between 9:00 am and 11:00 am from the JFS offices on Patterson Avenue.
Friendly Visitors make weekly social visits with homebound adults or older adults. The volunteers offer friendship and companionship, share stories, and perhaps play games, or take walks.
If you would like a Telephone Reassurance call or a Friendly Visitor please call the office to complete a participation application.
