The area public schools have joined together to form an adult education consortium: Middle Peninsula Regional Adult Career Education (MPRACE). MPRACE serves the Virginia Counties of Essex, King & Queen, King William, Mathews, Middlesex, Gloucester and the Town of West Point.
Middle Peninsula Regional Adult Continuing Education provides instruction to adults to improve basic academic skills (reading, writing, and math), GED Preparation (for high school equivalency) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Qualified teachers work with individuals and small classes at local sites throughout the Middle Peninsula of Virginia. Programs include:
- GED and Fast Track GED Classes consist of accelerated instruction designed to prepare adults whose goal is to acquire a GED Certificate. Instruction focuses on the five subjects measured by the GED test: Language Arts - Writing, Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics.
- Adult Basic Education (ABE) Classes consist of instruction that provides basic skills for adults who are performing below the ninth grade level in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and othe basic skills.
- English as a Second Language (ESOL) Classes consist of instruction designed to increase the English proficiency of limited English-speaking (LEP) adults in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- National External Diploma Program (NEDP) awards a traditional high school diploma to adults who have acquired many of their high school level abilities through work, family and community experiences.
