Tax Preparation and Assistance, Commissioner of the Revenue

Free income tax assistance is available at the Lee County Commissioner of the Revenue's office to individuals who qualify. Basic Virginia income tax returns are prepared free of charge for individuals with low to moderate incomes, individuals with disabilities and non-English speaking taxpayers. Assistance is also available with estimated tax payments.

The office is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The VITA program provides IRS-trained volunteers who provide free federal tax preparation and assistance at community locations convenient to the taxpayer. The VITA program is aimed at those for whom assistance may be out of reach.

If you plan on our office assisting you with your income tax preparation this year, you can now fill out the Intake/Review Sheet prior to coming to our office. Simply fill out the form, print it and bring it with you to the office along with your tax records. This will help speed up the intake process and allow us to work more efficiently to serve you.

The office also offers various state and federal tax forms to residents.
