Shifting Gears: Keeping the Drive at 75!

Turning 75? Come See Us at DMV

Virginia drivers age 75 or older are required to appear in person at DMV for their next license renewal and pass a vision screening. Once issued your license will generally be valid for five years.

You may have your vision screened at DMB or present a report from an opthalmologist or optometrist providing the result of your vision examination. The vision report must have been issued within 90 days of your driver's license renewal.

Driver's License Vision Requirements

With or without corrective lenses, a person's vision must be 20/40. If a person has vision problems in one eye, an individual must see 20/40 with the other eye, with or without corrective lenses.

Don't Let your License Expire

If you allow your license to expire, you will be required to provide proof of legal presence to renew. legal presence means that a person is either a United States citizen or is legally authorized to be in the U.S. Legal presence can be proved using an official U.S. birth certification or a valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card (temporary passports are not accepted). It can also be proved using a variety of other documents, such as a Certificate of Citizenship, Resident Alien Card or valid foreign passport with a VISA and an unexpired I-94 from a participating country.
