Who We Are

The Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC) is a long term care residence for adults with intellectual disabilities offering support and assistance with skill acquisition in activities of daily living, behavioral support, skills in social needs, nutritional and physical needs and other treatment as needed. There are eleven residential homes at Northern Virginia Training Center providing approximately 200 beds.



Training aims to help each person develop to his or her maximum potential. Accepts referrals through Community Services Boards. Offers respite care for adults with intellectual disabilities on a 24-hour residential basis as space permits.



Operated by Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services and licensed by the Virginia Department of Health. Convenient to Metrobus.

Northern Virginia residents. Ages 18 or over; Most of the clients in residence have severe or profound disabilit, associated with sensory and physical disabilities and/or extreme maladaptive behaviors.

Intake Process
Appointment required; Referrals through Community Service Board. Currently a waiting list for admission. Respite services can be obtained with no wait. The initial application may take 2-4 weeks to process
