Southern Area Agency on Aging (SAAA) provides services that promote independence and well-being for older adults. SAAA is also an information center for older and disabled individuals and their caregiving family members.
Services include: Information and Assistance; transportation to senior lunch sites, medical appointments and grocery shopping; social, recreational and health promotion activities at senior centers; home repairs and modifications for safety and accessibility; home-delivered meals; meals served at community sites; emergency financial assistance for basic needs; personal care (help with bathing, dressing, grooming and ambulation); light housekeeping, laundry and grocery shopping; help with heavy household tasks; respite for caregivers; caregiver training, Alzheimer's Support Groups; Long-Term Care Ombudsman (advocate for people who live in Nursing and Assisted Living Facilities and others who receive long-term care); Insurance Counseling (help with Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicaid and Long-Term Care Insurance); and Senior Employment Services.
(SAAA) charges fees to people who can afford to pay for the following services: personal care, housekeeping, respite, chore and care coordination and home repairs. Moderate fees are charged on a sliding scale basis, according to income. People whose income is near or below poverty level are not charged.
Fees are not charged for most other services. People who receive a service for which no fee is charged are encouraged to contribute toward the cost of the service.
