Who We Are
Senior Citizens Enrollment - A senior citizen (age 60 and older), resident of Virginia, is entitled to enroll and pay no tuition on a space-available basis for certain types of courses. Call for more information. Income restrictions apply.
A senior citizen is entitled to enroll and not pay tuition on a space-available basis for the following types of courses, as specified:
- Credit Courses -- eligible if taxable income has not exceeded $23,850 for the preceding year in which enrollment is sought. These courses will be transcripted with a letter grade (A-F).
- Credit Courses for Audit -- eligible regardless of income. No credit will be awarded and the courses will be transcripted with a grade of X (audit).
- Non-Credit (CEU) Courses (through Workforce Development) -- eligible regardless of income. You must register for these courses by contacting Workforce Development.
Note that classes listed on the online course schedule may be canceled for insufficient enrollment prior to the class start date.
Seniors with tuition waivers must purchase their own books and pay any fees for course materials. Seniors applying tuition waivers to credit classes are limited to a maximum of three courses per term.
Senior Citizen Policy - Legal residents of Virginia, 60 years of age or older, are eligible to take up to 3 non-credit classes on a space-available basis at no charge. If, however, paid registrants are available to fill all the spaces in a class, seniors will be asked to pay for their space or give up the space to a paid registrant. Generally, these calls are made only a few days before the class is held, so it is important to be flexible when registering as a senior citizen. To enroll in a Free credit class, go to the campus Student Services Center on the first day of class.
For a non-credit class, you must register in person at the Workforce Development office, Room 213, Engineering Building. You will also be asked to fill out a "Senior Citizen Eligibility for Free Tuition" form (required at the beginning of each semester). Call 703-845-6301.
