Legal Aid

Legal Aid Society of Roanoke provides free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of Roanoke Valley.   Cases involving a violation of the criminal law or traffic violations are not accepted.  Each case is examined on an individual basis; persons ineligible for representation will be referred to the Lawyer Referral Service, if appropriate.

To hear pre-recorded legal information, you can call the Legal Aid Helpline at 866.534.5243 on weekends and Monday through Friday 5:00pm to 9:00pm.  To speak with an attorney, call Blue Ridge Legal Services at 540.344.2080.  Attorneys are available between 9:00 am and 11:30 am Monday through Friday. This is the only way  you can schedule an appointment and apply for services.

The Legal Aid Society can also make special arrangements to serve homebound, hospitalized, handicapped or institutionalized applicants who are financially eligible. If you do not know where to get legal help, you may call the Virginia Lawyer Referral Service at (800) 552-7977
