Arlington County Fire Department provides fire safety education to the community including organizations and businesses, elementary and preschool children. Offers residential and business fire inspections, evaluates evacuation plans, assists in organizing brigades for high-rise buildings, coordinates fire safety programs with the school system. Responds to requests for information on Fire/EMS and hazardous materials. Also provides home safety checks to assist residents in maintaining a safer home environment.
The Arlington County Fire Department offers free home safety checks to residents of Arlington County and the City of Falls Church. You can schedule a home safety check online, by completing a form or by calling 703-228-4644 (TTY: 703-228-4610). If you call, please include your name, address, and both a day and evening phone number. A representative of the Fire Department will contact you to schedule an appointment.
Provides free home smoke detectors by appointment to qualified households. Persons without a working smoke detector should call and leave their name, address home and work phone numbers. Also replaces smoke detector batteries without charge to those in need.
Provides brochures with information on keeping homes safe for senior citizens. The "Remembering When" program, developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), seeks to prevent deaths and injuries among older adults and to help them live safely at home for a longer period of time. The program centers around 16 key messages and uses a nostalgia theme. The messages are presented through discussion, quizzes, brochures and handouts.
