Who We Are

The Portsmouth City Health Department strives to achieve and maintain optimum personal and community health for its residents by emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, and environmental protection.  Most services are provided on a sliding fee scale based on income and include:

  • Community Services
  • Family Planning
  • HIV/AIDS Testing
  • Immunizations 
  • Sexually Transmitted Illnesses (STI) Testing and Treatment
  • Communicable Disease Control
  • Overdose Prevention/Substance Abuse Resources
  • Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition

  • Vital Records--birth and death certificates
  • Emergency Response and Preparedness

Public health staff is available to answer health questions and speak to community organizations, schools, youth groups, and churches. Reference materials, informative pamphlets, and literature can also be obtained at the health department.

Intake Process
Some services are available on a walk-in basis such as family planning, STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) testing, TB testing and medication pick-up. Please see the clinic schedule for days and times when services are offered. Otherwise, many services require an appointment so please call ahead.
