Who We Are
The Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) provides energy assistance to heat the homes of Washington area residents who are in financial hardship. It pays for all types of winter heating fuels. Washington Gas pays WAFF’s administrative costs while The Salvation Army administers the fund. WAFF doesn’t replace federal or state energy assistance; rather it supplements those resources when all others are not enough.
Payments are made by the Salvation Army and go directly to the energy vendors. Funds come from tax-decuctible donations. Income and family size are the primary tests of eligibility for WAFF assistance.
Applications are accepted from January 1 through May 31. To apply for help from the fund, you must go to The Salvation Army office in the county or city in which you live. Office locations are listed below.
