Who We Are

Charlottesville Redevelopment Housing Authority (CRHA) owns and manages 376 units of public housing to assist low and moderate income families, seniors and individuals with disabilities across seven sites in Charlottesville:

  • Westhaven (126 units) – constructed 1964
  • Crescent Halls (105 units) – constructed 1976
  • South First Street (58 units) – constructed 1981
  • Sixth Street (25 units) – constructed 1980
  • Michie Drive (23 units) – constructed 1980
  • Madison Avenue (18 units) – constructed 1980
  • Riverside Drive (16 units) – constructed 1980

In addition, CRHA owns 5 single-family homes that it manages as public housing units.

CRHA is authorized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to administer up to 538 Housing Choice Vouchers (formerly known as “Section 8” vouchers) for the benefit of local residents.  For general information, please call 434-296-1863.

Eligibility for a rental voucher or certificate is determined by the Housing Office. The eligibility is based on total annual gross income and family size. Must be U.S. citizen or specified category of non-citizen who have eligible immigration status. Must apply in person with personal identification or photo ID. Long waiting periods are common. Call the office for more information about the Voucher Program.
