Cooling and Heating Assistance

Clinch Valley Community Action offers a weatherization program and heating system repair and other programs to assist with home safety in the counties of Tazewell and Russell.

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides funds to reduce the heating and cooling costs for low-income families, and to ensure their health and safety.  Assistance services are available for low-income households who own their own home, particularly for the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and families with children.  The program provides direct installation of energy-saving measures such as:

• Sealing air-leaks with insulation, caulking, and weather-stripping;
• Repairing leaky duct systems;
• Repairing and/or replacing inefficient or unsafe heating systems; and
• Installing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.

Cooling Assistance
The Cooling Assistance Program is designed to assist low-income households in Tazewell County with cooling needs. Applications are taken only during the months of June-August. Other special requirements may apply.  The program provides window air conditioning for households that meet: Applications can be made through each local Department of Social Services from June 15 until August 15.

Other programs include:

• Heating Equipment Repair and Placement
• Applications can be made through Tazewell and Russell Counties'Department of Social Services from November 1 until March 31.
• Furnace Repair Program
• The furnace repair program has been effective in identified unit hazards as well as installing carbon monoxide detectors that will prevent any fatality from harmful gases.
• In-Door Plumbing
• Assists low-income clients in Tazewell County that do not have an indoor bathroom.
