Who We Are
The Assistive Technology Center is located at 4504 Starkey Road in Roanoke, VA. The Adaptive Technology Center provides individualized instruction in various software programs that make computers accessible to people with vision impairments. With this equipment, people with these disabilities can gain or regain access to the benefits of a computer.
The trained instructor provides guidance and instruction to enable each student to attain a level of comfort and competence in things such as:
Accessing books, recipes, and magazines.
Browsing the internet.
Sending and receiving e-mail.
Downloading and listening to audio books.
The Center is equipped with a scanner, printer, braille embosser, and internet access. Using programs such as Jaws for Windows, Open Book, Zoom Text, and Duxbury, sight/print impaired persons can gain access to a new level of independence and information.
