Who We Are
UVA Health System offers geriatric care. Outpatient clinical services for aging adults offers geriatric psychiatric care, primary care and consultative care of older adults, including a specialty in geriatric psychiatry.
Older adults may experience changes in mood, thinking or behavior due to age-related medical or psychiatric causes. Geriatric psychiatric medicine offers cognitive assessment, medication assessment, and checks for depression and anxiety, memory loss and anxiety, as well as adult inpatient treatment, adult outpatient treatment, child and family psychiatry, continuum home health services and psychiatric clinical research.
The center offers treatment from mild depression to severe psychiatric disorders. The Geriatric Psychiatry program offers clinical psychiatric services to the UVA Health System Psychiatric Service Center, including inpatient and outpatient treatment, medical management, and consultation. Inpatient care is provided in a specialized Geriatric Psychiatry unit.
A treatment team consisting of a Geriatric Psychiatrist, Geriatric Psychiatry fellow, psychiatric residents and nurses specialized in geriatrics along with activity therapy, and OT, offer superb geriatric care to the elderly patient. Two Geriatric Psychiatry Clinics are held at Northridge Clinic offering specialized expertise to the geriatric outpatient. Many are tertiary referrals, complicated cases referred from the surrounding region.
Services are delivered by health care providers specially trained in geriatrics. Interpreter arranged by request.
