The program, “Caring for Mom & Dad,” aired on PBS Mother’s Day, May 2015, presenting stories that pulled on one’s heartstrings, as well as, acknowledged the difficult questions of costs, rights and medical capabilities of caregiving.
With Americans living longer than ever before, reports show that family members are providing 90 percent of the care for their aging parents, often balancing work and family. Family caregivers often struggle with emotional strain, challenges to their own health, and the heavy financial burden of expenses that may not be covered by Medicare.
“Caring for Mom & Dad” produced with funding from AARP and Pfizer, narrated by Meryl Street, hopes to raise awareness of the important issues of family caregiving and the implications of the 78 million baby boomer wave who are aging and who will be able and willing to care for them.
